Kirk Freeport and Herend have together donated $3,000 to the National Trust for use in the education of Cayman's youth on the conservation of the marine environment.

Michael Bowman, Operations and Merchandise Manager of Kirk Freeport speaks on behalf of Herend and Kirk Freeport in saying, “We are very happy to have the opportunity to benefit the community, through contributing to the education of today’s youth on the marine environment and how we can best preserve it. The decision to apply this donation to the underwater environment was a natural one for Herend as it represents the proceeds of Herend’s “Caribbean Collection”, a range of hand painted porcelain marine life figurines, developed in collaboration with Kirk Freeport. One of the highlights of this collection is the hand painted Stingray figurine, designed and created by Herend exclusively for the Cayman Islands.”

Theresa Broderick, Executive Director of the National Trust explains that, "respectful of Herand's interest in Marine Conservation, we propose using the donation to develop a youth oriented, multi-media educational packet that will include material contributions from several talented educators, the Department of Environment and other educational sources on the Marine Conservation. Working with multi-media specialist, our aim is to have the packet available on the National Trust website for independent use and also, as a reproducible CD that can be used by teachers to compliment curriculum studies."

Herend is one of the world’s most prestigious producers of hand crafted and hand painted porcelain dinnerware and giftware, whose superb quality and uniqueness of each piece has earned them recognition and demand with royalty and prominent figures throughout the world. Established in 1826, by master potter Vince Stingl, Herend has pursued excellence of hand-crafting, training each thrower, moulder and painter and instilling in them with the skills and passion that is applied to each piece.

Tamas Vecsey, Master Painter, recently visited Grand Cayman and demonstrated his extraordinary talent and skill, in an evening hosted by National Gallery and Kirk Freeport. National Gallery Acting Director Nancy Barnard noted, “the National Gallery is happy to host special functions such as this one, where it will be of obvious benefit for our colleagues in other non-profit organizations, and where the work is of the good quality people have come to expect in the Gallery.”

"…we propose using the donation to develop a youth oriented, multi-media educational packet that will include material contributions from several talented educators, the Department of Environment and other educational sources on the Marine Conservation."
